South Main Street Streetscape Project

The Scottville Main Street Program is planning a streetscape project for South Main Street. The plan was developed by the Main Street Design Committee through input with community members and nationally known experts. Manning & Associates administered  a series of design charrettes with community participation. The result was a comprehensive design strategy that will be initiated in phases. The design plan has been fine tuned with input from experts through the National Main Street’s Resource Team visit and the Downtown Walkability Audit.

The South Main Street Streetscape Project was chosen as the highest priority of the design charrette by the Design Committee. The plan is to plant more street trees along South Main Street. They will be planted at a spacing of thirty feet. The existing Locust trees will be removed. New benches, trash receptacles, and bike racks will be installed in strategic positions as well. Two bumpouts will be installed, one at the corners of Second Street and one at the halfway point of Main Street in order to increase the safety of pedestrian crossings.

At the corners of U.S. 10 and Main Street, brick pavers will replace existing concrete. There will also be brick pavers installed in strips along South Main Street a foot out from the buildings and one foot from the curb.

In order to increase the safety of drivers and pedestrians, the angle parking configuration will be changed to reverse angle parking. Click on the link below for a presentation on the benefits of reverse angle parking.

The South Main Street Streetscape Project will be completed by end of 2010. The Scottville Main Street volunteers have put a lot of work into this project and we thank everyone that has helped this project along.
